3 Steps Everyone Needs in their Sunday Reset
You clicked on this article for probably one of a few reasons, you don't have a Sunday reset, your reset isn't working, or you might not even know what a Sunday reset entails. This will hopefully answer all those questions for you and get you started as soon as possible with a new Sunday reset just for you. A Sunday reset is designed to make you feel calmer, more organized, and overall better. It is especially helpful on busy weeks, or even just when life gets a little overwhelming. The first thing to know is that it isn't always going to be perfect, aesthetically pleasing, or even the exact same all the time, and that is okay. Our brand is all about slowing down, and finding habits to make your life calmer, and this is the perfect place to begin.
Reset at School
After a long week of school and a busy weekend, it is so important to relax your mind and space in order to prepare for the upcoming week. Mentally, you might feel all over the place and you might be able to see it too when you take a look at your environment. Having this routine is going to change exactly that. However it is specific to you, and what you need in order to start this next week on your best foot. That might include cleaning, cooking, planning, or even just relaxing with friends and taking that extra moment for yourself. Either way, it is time for you to check in and decide how you want to start this next week and the steps to make that happen.
Coming into college I found it very difficult to form a set routine for myself, and to be honest even more a reset. I was so used to living at home where everything was pretty much the same since growing up. This was my first time moving out, which meant I needed to create my own reset in order to prepare for the week ahead and feel good. At the beginning I didn't even know where to start, however I started to notice the little things that made me feel calmer and more organized when starting my week. After a month or so I created a list of what ideally would be done on Sundays to start the best week possible, at least try. This is what formed my Sunday reset routine, which has pretty much stayed the same for the entirety of my college experience. So, I urge you to try to notice what YOU need in order to feel your best and take note of it, because that will make or break your reset. Whenever I don't reset, my whole week is off, everything feels rushed, messy, and overall worse. Next, are four steps that should be included in everyone's reset
Step One: Clean Your Space
The very first thing I like to do on a sunday reset is to clean up my space, because if my environment is messy then so is my head. While this doesn't have to take several hours or be deep clean, it is just enough to make you feel calm when entering your space. This can mean just cleaning your bedroom, your bathroom, kitchen, sharing living space, whatever you think will make a difference in the way you view it. For me the first steps are simple such as making my bed, throwing in some laundry, and taking out the trash. This could be as quick as 10 minutes and even that makes me feel ten times better than before. Again, this won't be the same every week, just what simply needs to be done. A good way to look at this when you don't know where to start is simply to think to yourself, if this was someone else's home and I walked into this space how would I feel? You want it to be a space you feel comfortable, peaceful, and somewhere you can take a step back from reality.
Step Two: Reset Your Body & Mind
After resetting my space, it is time to reset your body and mind to feel fresh going into the week. For me, this typically looks like a nice shower, putting on comfy clothes, making tea, and lighting a candle. Truly whatever makes you feel the most comfortable, the most important part in this step is to not rush yourself. Let yourself have this time simply for yourself. It is important to do these physical things to care for yourself to feel your best while also combining it with emotionally calming activities. This could be spending time with loved ones to relax, journaling, or even taking a break from screens and reading for a couple minutes. This is the time to reflect on your past week, whether you like to journal or not, writing down these thoughts can help get them out of your head. It is crucial during this time to give your brain a reset as well and truly slow down. I notice a lot of the time when people are overwhelmed it is more internal that what they may actually have in front of them.
Step Three: Plan Ahead
This is a crucial part in a sunday reset when it comes down to how it sets you up for the week. When you take the time to plan out your week, it will relieve so much stress and guess what you may have to do. This way you can feel fully prepared and organized for the tasks you have to complete. Whether this is looking over the calendar, reviewing assignments, planning out a grocery list. Anything that will help the week feel a little simpler, along with giving you something to look forward to. This could be a workout class, an outfit, or even a fun meal idea you are trying out this week. This will help you set realistic lists and set priorities of what you need to accomplish. However, this is not meant to overwhelm you when it may be a busy week, just a way to prepare and hopefully aid for more relief.
Conclusion
In simple terms, a sunday reset is a way to care for yourself and help you feel a little more confident when entering your week. This should calm any nerves, provide stability, and make it more manageable. While still noticing that it won't always be perfect and finding out what works for you as part of this routine. I recommend starting small with a couple steps that you think would benefit you when entering the new week and see how it affects you not only mentally but also physically.
