Feeling stressed? Try these 10 simple self-care tips

There are so many different ways to take care of your mental health, but only a few that actually work. Today, we are going to get to the bottom of what tips and tricks you can implement into your daily lifestyle that actually work. Hopefully, these tips will then create habits and routines that you won't even notice you do on a daily basis while keeping a strong, balanced mental state. We will cover some of your favorite simple things like creating a cozy night routine, journaling, or starting your morning slow, that you might not even have known affect your mental health & emotional well-being. Some of these things you might already be doing, which is great. You don't have to start all of these in a day, but my best advice to you would be to start working on them one at a time. Pick one to prioritize for the week and see how it resonates with you and challenges you. If it doesn't make sense for you to uphold this practice each week, then move on to another one you could see working. It doesn't have to be done each time perfectly, just try your best and see what works for you. Don't overthink it, just take a deep breath and spend some time each week seeing what you enjoy or don't. Mental health is so important for your well-being and to keep you going and happy each and every day. 1 in 5 adults experiences mental health-related illnesses yearly, whether it's from genetics, environmental factors, or even social factors. Although this is a large percentage of our society, 70-90% of mental health illnesses are treatable with the right care. You may be reading that and thinking that you don't have a mental illness that needs to be treated, or if you do, you need to go to therapy, get on medication, or something else, but you might be surprised. Many of these mental health illnesses go unnoticed, and just because you are not diagnosed or believe you may be struggling, doesn’t mean your mental health doesn’t matter & you shouldn’t care about doing things to improve it.

1. Start Your Morning Slowly

Instead of rushing, give yourself at least 10–15 minutes to wake up peacefully. Avoid your phone and ease into your day with something calming, like stretching or quiet time. Look in our plush bedding sets or toiletry bags, where you can keep all your belongings together and start your morning at ease.

2. Create a Cozy Night Routine

A consistent night routine helps your mind relax. Light a candle, dim the lights, and do something calming like reading or journaling before bed. We have so many cute designs and prints you can choose from for journals, candles, robes, and bedding. Haven State has something for everyone.

3. Journal Your Thoughts

Writing down your thoughts can help you process emotions and reduce stress. You don’t need to be perfect, just be honest. Haven State has many different style notebooks and accessories you can use in order to keep your thoughts organized and in one place.

4. Limit Social Media Time

Taking breaks from social media can improve your mood and reduce comparison. Try setting small limits during the day. If you struggle with doing that, try using the app store screen time limits to help you achieve this goal.

5. Spend Time Outside

Fresh air and sunlight can boost your mental health. Even a short walk can help clear your mind. Take a family member, a pet, or even just yourself. Listen to the birds chirping outside or some of your go-to songs. It doesn't have to be early or long, just make sure to get outside and enjoy it.

6. Keep Your Space Clean

A clean, organized space can make you feel more in control and less overwhelmed. Start small, like making your bed or organizing a drawer. It doesn't have to be something big. Haven State offers many bedding sets that keep your space organized yet aesthetic for you to feel just at home.

7. Drink Enough Water

Staying hydrated affects both your body and mood. Make it a habit to drink water throughout the day. Especially while doing physical activity. Your body needs water to survive; it boosts energy, improves cognitive function, enhances skin, and so much more. Use a haven state water bottle that will keep you on track and remind you to reach your goals.

8. Do One Thing You Enjoy

Make time for something that makes you happy, even if it’s small, like listening to music, watching a show, or drawing. This could be with friends, family, or even just by yourself.

9. Practice Gratitude

Take a moment each day to think about things you’re grateful for. This can shift your mindset and improve your mood. This could be a quick 5-minute thought or taking an hour to yourself to reflect on life and everything you've been giving/worked for.

10. Give Yourself Grace

You don’t have to be productive all the time. Rest is important too, and it’s okay to have slow days. It's okay to not feel up to doing certain things you usually love. It's okay to not be as productive as you were yesterday. Give yourself a second and be patient with your mind and body. You are doing great!

These simple tasks really add up and can make a huge difference in your life. Even if you think these things might not impact you, you just have to give it a chance. Personally, I love having my cozy night routine, where I drink my herbal tea, do my homework, sit with my roommate, put on a red light therapy mask, recap our day, do my skin care, light a candle, and watch TV to go to bed. Those simple joys in life really keep you going. Even limiting your social media screen time which makes a lasting impact on your mental health. Remember, balance is key, and if you aren't happy, the only person who can make that change is yourself. Even if your tip isn’t included on this list, if it's something that helps you and makes you feel better about yourself, stick to it, and you will see how much it impacts you. Be kind to your body, emotions, and yourself. They are working overtime, and it's key to understand that and give yourself a break.
